What happens if you put Diesel in a Petrol engine?

Provided you act quickly there will be no damage to your car. You can forget it ever happened - just drive on as normal. In rare cases some follow-up work might be recommended - our mechanic will advise you. We'll also give you our number for any questions that might come up.

Symptoms of wrong fuel:

Loss of engine power after filling up

Engine runs poorly after refuelling

White smoke in exhaust after filling up

Dashboard warning light after filling up

Fuel pump failure, Vapour Lock, Misfires and blocked fuel lines

Car refuses to start after refuelling or when it has cooled down

Our tests show that unleaded petrol mixed with diesel starts to degrade fuel lines in less than a day.

And diesel in a petrol engine doesn't burn properly, resulting in deposits that damage engine performance. Both issues stop your car from running, and they both require fast attention to avoid damage.

šŸŸ Ā Our average arrival time on site is 46 minutes

šŸŸ  from that point it usually takes about half an hour to complete the removal process, to re-prime fuel lines, and to get you back on the road .

FuelFixer were one of the first companies to specialise in wrong fuel and misfueling problems and now have comprehensive service coverage throughout the UK.

Differences between petrol and diesel:

Petrol ignites with an electrical spark provided by your engine. Diesel fuel ignites when placed under intense pressure inside the cylinder. The ignition is slower but results in more power at low engine revs

Diesel is oily and much thicker than petrol - the oiliness helps to lubricate engine parts

Diesel fuel is safer than petrol - its fumes are far less likely to ignite in the presence of a flame (though please don't test this as it is still dangerous)

Wrong fuel facts:

Insurers say 24% of men have misfueled at least once, but only 17% of women

Petrol and diesel both come from crude oil - they go back together very rapidly if mixed in your tank

Our own tests show that petrol starts to visibly degrade fuel lines and seals in diesel engines within just a few hours

Safety features in modern car designs make it hard to remove all fuel in the tank. FuelFixer pioneered the technology to accomplish this without needing garage work.

Our friends at the AA say 150,000 UK motorists misfuel every year
